Epson 在 2004 年這個數位與類比的轉換時期，也曾為了驗證數位影像能透過噴墨印刷技術列印出媲美底片沖洗的照片，推出過一款採用 APS-C 片幅的萊卡 M 接環數位旁軸機，也是史上第一款數位旁軸機身。而前幾天 Epson 基於現在數位影像發展已經相當普遍。 R-D1 已完成階段任務，正式宣布 R-D1 於 2009 年推出的最末一代機型 R-D1xG 停產。
